We have been working hard to create and enter new technology-enhanced items (TEIs) into our testing bank. All new items are introduced as pilot items during computer adaptive testing (CAT) experiences. Your students have seen the new TEI item types as they complete their CAT experiences. Pilot items are not factored into the student’s results. The pilot process allows us to collect the item validation data to ensure that each item performs adequately before being released into the primary bank. If you do not want your students exposed to the pilot questions, you can disable the item piloting feature by editing your school settings. Contact Customer Support if you require assistance with this.
The first round of TEI items have been created, graduated from the pilot process, and are now available for you in the primary bank. This initial round of TEI items was created as Select All That Apply (SATA)/Multiple Selection (MS) items. Some of the SATA items will tell the student how many choices to select, while others will only ask the student to select all that apply. We want your students to be exposed to items like what they will experience on their national credentialing exams while also helping them develop critical thinking skills.
There are SATA items available for all EMS provider levels. The following is a breakdown of the number of SATA items available for each provider level.
EMR: 51 SATA available
EMT: 76 SATA available
AEMT: 70 SATA available
Paramedic: 80 SATA available
The introduction of the SATA item type is just the beginning. We are constantly working on the bank, retiring items, and creating new ones. We will be introducing additional TEI item types in the future.
In addition to working on adding additional TEI items to the bank, we are eagerly awaiting a meeting with the NREMT to learn more about the ALS Redesign and the introduction of the performance exam that will replace the psychomotor skills examination. The NREMT anticipates the meeting taking place in July. As we learn more about what the new exam will look like, we will work to provide you with a solution to prepare your students for the new experience.
As you can see, there is a lot of work ahead involving creating and validating new testing items. If you are interested in being an item writer/content creator for Platinum Educational Group, please send a letter of interest and your CV to spencer@platinumed.com. We will be happy to discuss the opportunity with you.
If you have any questions concerning the TEI item types, the piloting process, or any other work we are doing within our banks, please feel free to reach out to me at spencer@platinumed.com.
Stay Healthy & Safe!
