Everyone would like to have a valid and defendable final exam that is a reliable indicator of student success at the national certification exam. The creation of such an exam is a very time-consuming process. First, the exam blueprint must be created and then the item writing process can begin. Once the item writing process has been completed, the piloting phase can start. Each item that was created for the exam must be piloted to validate its performance. Of course, no item is perfect, and revisions must be made after the initial pilot. Then the items get piloted again to confirm that their performance is improving. At this point the process is still not complete. The item’s performance must be tracked for the life of the item, and making adjustments to fine tune the performance of every item that is included on the final exam.

You may have heard that Platinum Educational Group has final exams available for each EMS license level. We have 2 versions available for EMR, EMT-B, and Paramedic and 1 version available for the AEMT. We also have new versions for each EMS license level out in the pilot process right now!
EMSTesting’s final exams are blueprinted according to the National Registry Practice Analysis. Every item on our final exams goes through a rigorous validation process. Each item is reviewed by our education team and medical director and then is assigned a cut score using the Nedelsky method for the calculation of cut scores. Each final exam is reviewed and evaluated for difficulty and discrimination and piloted to over 100 individuals prior to deployment with program and medical director feedback as well. Once we have received a minimum of 100 responses to the item, a close item analysis is performed and adjustments made to improve the performance of the item. The items are then tracked for the lifetime of the item and are constantly monitored for performance standards.
